My 7 month old gsd is 60 pounds and growing. 3 cups twice a day is VERY expensive. Can I get a more affordable solution 😭

  2. @morenoh149 on October 3, 2024 at 9:41 pm

    0.5 tbsp sunflower oil
    1 lb turkey
    0.5 cup chopped kale
    4 cup brown rice cooked

Serving 1 cup twice daily per 20 lbs of dog

Serve for 8 weeks. Swap out protein if allergy persists until you find the allergy.

Dr says supplement with krill oil to reduce itching in another video.

HELP! We are using the ground Turkey, egg, rice, carrot etc…recipe. You said 8 weeks. We are getting close to 6 weeks and she is getting worse. She constantly scratches her ears, she cries, her ears are damp. (More than before we started this regimen.). They emit a thick mucus type liquid. I want to try something else. Please recommend something.

    Can food allergies cause coughing?

  5. @manadog on October 3, 2024 at 9:44 pm

I tried to do this, but my vet recoiled in horror. he said to never give my dog home cooked food, always give it kibble. I said that cant be right how the f is the super processed kibble better than real actual meat and vegies, plus my dog likes the home cooked food 5 times more than the kibble.
Then I asked another vet and he told me the same thing. I can not believe it. is there a movement from big dog pharma which funds these dog nutrition studies?
Should I cook for my dog in order to pinpoint it;s alergies ?

My baby Copper is 17 years old this year. Last year he had a inguinal hernia surgery that truly changed his immune system. Shortly after his long recovery, he started to develop what we thought were hot spots, but sadly even after the antimicrobial and antifungal shampoos and sprays the issue continued. Today, I got news from our vet that his skin test came back and read he had a Staph infection. Luckily, a week ago his fantastic vet team shaved his now large areas of infections and I was able to see his skin change immediately after he eats his 4 ingredient chicken wet food. I thought I was going nuts or just overthinking it. Folks, we had been given him more of the chicken recipes since he favored them most! Today I thought, well maybe it was the type of chicken they put in their wet food, so I made my own chicken, mixed it with green beans and chicken bone broth. Before he ate his skin was a normal beige color, but almost immediately after he finished his homemade organic greens, pasture raised chicken meal his shaved areas TURNED BRIGHT PINK/RED and BECAME SUPER HOT! It was the DARN CHICKEN! I knew it, I knew it had to be internal and moreover his diet. Yes he got a Staph infection because of the constant licking but we were just treating the symptom, not the root cause! I am not an expert at treating anyone other than furry baby but mine, however I had to share my experience for other pet parents to read. My furry baby has been with me for 17 years, he is walks well because we give him weekly laser therapy treatments, he eats the cleanest food we could find for dogs, and he is happy boy. I hope this story helps your furry family and tomorrow we will be making this recipe which is great because he loves ground turkey!

What about to control the itchiness , my dogs body is getting pretty bad , I’m with her 24/7 , but you can see the abrasions & bumps raising , she’s scratching to where she bleeds , she sliced her nipple. I be sure to keep on eye on her 24:7?c but I do want to ease her discomfort!

Im so glad I watched hour video. My 2 yr old chihuahua and 10 yr old poodle both have food allergies. I’m certainly try the turkey, kale brown rice and sunflower oil recipe. My poor dogs are miserable from the itchies and paw licking! Benadryl and Zertec doesn’t phase their allergies.

I have a question. Can I continue to use the Krill supplement & Plant steroids while performing this allergy test

  13. @arahperrett8212 on October 3, 2024 at 9:52 pm

My dog and I are 12 days into your allergy elimination diet. It’s going really well. The almost daily vomiting has stopped. He still tries to lick his paws. However, this is already reducing. Thank you! I was at my wits end. By the way, he loves the food. I am finding that with some weekend batch cooking, it’s easy to feed Noah this way. I am tempted to continue when the 8 weeks are up.

  14. @Lucky-wt6fg on October 3, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Do you think it would be ok to use rabbit as I am rather stuck for a novel protein to use with my dog. He has had rabbit in the past but very little and was about 7 years ago. Presumable he wouldn’t have developed an allergy to it. I can get raw ground rabbit ok. The only other food I can use is dry raw, but I am a bit concerned about it as it is 70% goat and 30% parsnip and also has seaweed lime and seaweed in it which basically has carrageenan init……also it’s dry which I am not keen on, and the parsnips are high glycemic index which I would not normally give him. So I thought maybe the rabbit was a better choice then I can add some green veg. I don5 give mine carbs. Thanks.

  16. @danielcarper2628 on October 3, 2024 at 9:58 pm

I have a lab that weighs 100 Lbs. You said 1 cup per 20 Lbs. so your saying 5 cups each feeding? A total of 10 cups of food each day? That seems like an awful lot of food. Like way more than I would eat even and I weigh 250 Lbs. Am I crazy to be thinking this or would it be more like 2-3 cups per feeding for a 100 Lb. Lab.

  19. @Lucky-wt6fg on October 3, 2024 at 10:01 pm

How do you know if the itching etc is due to a food trail or just environmental allergies? If the dog has environmental allergies (possibly) they may be itching anyway.

My dog is allergic to poultry. Also severe skin allergies. Rice makes her farty and tummy rumbles, peas, chickpeas, beans also make her drink/pee/poop more. Sweet potatoes weren’t good for her. High protein diet with potato caused high constipation, anal gland backup/infection. What is a good diet and enzyme supplement for special needs?

I watch a lot of your videos on about allergies. I’m trying to figure out Miska what is wrong with her her body is all red. But you always say that a dog is constantly licking their paws or scratching, but I don’t really see any of this in her scratching, and looking.. I saw saw her on her chest. I didn’t know what to do so I rub coconut oil on it. It seem to close up the store and then I took her to the vet. He noticed she was red under the arms and all of her belly, but he didn’t say what it was and he didn’t say anything really about it. And then a couple of days later I had to take her back because your ears were all red and she end up with a yeast ear infection. He gave medication and ear drops, but the redness upper body is still there. But I don’t see any signs of her really scratching and itching and licking the way that you say a dog would if they had food allergies. I am trying other things that you have mentioned, and I see some difference in her. But I just don’t know what to think about this redness in her body.????

My shih tzu has been on this diet religiously for 6 days and now its been two days since he’s had a bowel movement. He’s eating and drinking ok, should I be concerned??

  28. @sabrehill1 on October 3, 2024 at 10:09 pm

Can I feed this to my yeasty dog? Trying to find out if he has food allergy that has enflamed the yeast growth.
I’ve done all the environment tests and blood tests/scrapings advised by the vet and they all came back negative so it must be his diet that is causing an issue?
Worried about carbohydrate like rice for my yeasty westie
    Thanks

Is it common for the dogs stool to be smaller on homemade food?

  30. @taelscholver5775 on October 3, 2024 at 10:10 pm

2 thoughts often dogs with GI signs are low in B12 and other vit/min so might be good to add . My dog only improved when I started to supplement that . I read in some sources you should start to see improvement in 2-3 weeks ? In case of my dog I’ve seen no improvement in itching in food trials so I’m thinking it might have another cause

  31. @robinmullins3320 on October 3, 2024 at 10:11 pm

Y dogs eat dog food out of top five. I think it’s coming from the air and water &food. When dog from different households have tumors come on there body there is a big problem. And it kills them. It’s bad

  32. @cindyshain3430 on October 3, 2024 at 10:13 pm

I’m a little concerned about the rice though I mean if a dog were in the wild they wouldn’t eat rice right?

  33. @erusso4441 on October 3, 2024 at 10:15 pm

When switching from kibble is diarrhea normal? After 8 weeks we see improvement Then what do we do regarding diet do we make homemade food do we keep them on the turkey thank you

  34. @laurensky4594 on October 3, 2024 at 10:17 pm

What do I do after this ? In order to go to a same protein based , what is the next step

  35. @andreahl1825 on October 3, 2024 at 10:24 pm

you must be kidding….adding soo much carbs and sunflower oil is just going to cause sooo much inflammation in the dog…doctor you can do better research….

Is chopped brocoli ok instead of kale?

  37. @GelliSolo on October 3, 2024 at 10:25 pm

Why say that those tests aren’t reliable? If u do your research you can find a good one. 5 strands had helped me know what she can and can’t eat. 5 strands I great

Hi I am in south india . I feel my dog is allergic to chicken or dairy or gluten which I am not really sure . I have only access to goat/mutton as novel protein . Can I try that instead of turkey

  44. @lanetteehrhardt1225 on October 3, 2024 at 10:32 pm

Is it ok to completely switch to this diet in one day or should it be gradual? I switched all in one day and now he’s barely pooping once a day and his poop is yellow and slimmy. What should I do? I can’t use my vet because he thinks dogs shouldn’t be eating human foods anyway!

  45. @elhombreloco3680 on October 3, 2024 at 10:32 pm

Isn’t this a little too much food? According to this I would feed my 60-lb dog 6 cups a day, so pretty much all the food Dr. Jones prepared. Just the 1lb of ground turkey is ~900 calories. 4 cups of cooked brown rice have another 850 calories, for a total of ~1750 calories. And approximate daily need for a normally active 60-lb dog is estimated at ~950 calories, so we’re like 800 calories in excess? Am I doing any of the math wrong?

  46. @marie61413 on October 3, 2024 at 10:35 pm

Hi Doctor, thank you for your video. I am new here and my 14 y/o fur baby is in the hospital. She was admitted because of her failing kidney and diabetes. My baby was diagnose in 2022. She got tested for allergy and is allergic to pork, turkey sweet potato, milk, pumpkin, and duck. She was given steroids but develop Cushing and is on Trilostane. I will try your recipe substitute turkey with chicken or beef. Right now she is not yet eating in the hospital. The Dr. Said she is still can have nausea due to her failing kidneys and her gastritis. The creatinine is going down from 8 to 5 in 24 hours which i consider there is still hope. I pray that she will be able to eat and get better so we can be with her from God’s grace in the remaining days, weeks, months and years. My baby is a very good gentle loving dog and never fussy. We rescued her when she was 1 year old about to be put to sleep. I will try this recipe for her when she gets home. Is there

  47. @Dwl7842 on October 3, 2024 at 10:36 pm

I am so thankful for your channel and expertise.
I recently got a silver lab 2 months ago. she is 4 months now. We didn’t know much about feeding a puppy so we went with Purina Pro plan- Chicken flavor and wanted to work our way to me cooking her meals 100%. She did not take well to the kibble as her itch began there. We suspected she might be allergic or have an intolerance to an ingredient in the kibble so I started my research.
I lessened the kibble amount and incorporated: chicken, turkey and beef with sweet potato, rice, broccoli. She was scratching non stop and even whining while scratching. She also began having diarrhea. It was getting worse.
She was clearly uncomfortable and allergic to something in either the kibble ingredients or the protein. She developed red spots on her chest and her armpit area which she scratched raw. I started the 1:1 ratio of apple cider vinegar and coconut oil like you mentioned in a previous video which helped! Made her own shampoo with Castile soap, green tea, and lavender oil like you mentioned in another video. The shampoo eased the itch a bit, but only temporarily. The itch continued and was beginning to take a toll on her sleep and ours.
Fast forward to 3 days ago when I found this video decided to do a complete reset on her food.
We threw away that junk Kibble, gave her aller-tec before sleeping to ease the discomfort and fed her only turkey, rice & sunflower oil for now (I’ll add veggies once her skin is fully healed). I eventually want to get away from the rice but that’s beside the point. In only 2 days time, her diarrhea was gone, her skin is healing and she isn’t scratching like before. I am so happy and she looks relieved for the first time since we got her!

Thank you so so much! My anxiety was beginning to skyrocket trying to figure out what was her deal and now we are seeing progress with this elimination diet. Eventually we’ll try other proteins. We suspect she was allergic to chicken, but only time will tell. We appreciate you Dr. Jones ♥️

Ps. You mentioned sticking to this for 8 weeks. Can I add the Bee Propolis to her diet in the mean time? Or wait it out?

  48. @tracyblake3716 on October 3, 2024 at 10:37 pm

Working like a charm. I have done so many homemade dog food and my dog never liked them. I really didn’t think he be eating this diet, but now he looks forward to meal time. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! I substitute brown rice for quinoa as he never liked rice. It’s affordable too! BTW my neighbor dog comes up by me and I feed her the diet and now she won’t eat her regular food lol.

ok the elimination diet seemed to work…. my dog is no longer itching…. but now how do i reintroduce other foods … how long would it take to see symptoms / to know exactly what was causing the itching reaction. oh, what is your opinion of sulfur soap… out of desperation i bathed my pekingese Harry with it… the 10 percent bar version of sulfur soap…. and it seemed to help.
