What do you think about aloe vera to treat wounds as the step before applying the Neosporin and bandage?

I use a homemade saline solution for irrigation vs. Chlorhexidine (CHG). Please take a look at the study comparison here. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22874117/

But honey can attract housefly and housefly are the major reason for maggots

  15. @jesusreturning3003 on October 3, 2024 at 9:37 pm

I’m so glad you said Honey 😊
I also use "Raw" honey on my own wounds, if you have manuka honey it is even better for wound healing.
Make sure it’s raw honey not supermarket honey, as it’s mostly sugar and its pasteurised, so all the enzymes are gone.

Thank you— but what if a dog bites her lip —I think— while afraid of a loud noise like a smoke alarm… I gave her honey (natural antibiotic, right?) and peanut butter (anti inflammatory, right?) and what if a dog breathes softly and it sounds like a soft tapping, though had eaten some chicken just fine prior to that observation …

  24. @lilnbigman on October 3, 2024 at 9:46 pm

Sounds great but I wash with warm water then a touch of honey with bagabond on it. It is has been used from 1932 for not just dogs but people.

  25. @simsim5919 on October 3, 2024 at 9:46 pm

Do you repeat this procedure more than once? Or do you do it once then the Honey twice day? My other dog licked the honey off my dogs ear so I dontbknow if I should repeat whole process from beginning

What if the wound is open? Like I can see the muscle I think. Should I still use honey? And is organic raw honey good?

  37. @astridhood3288 on October 3, 2024 at 10:10 pm

My dog got scratched or bit by another dog through our chain link fence. I’ve been monitoring if for 8 days now but he just re-opened it and the scabs came off. I am really worried that I may need to take him in for stitches. How can I know? Could you look at a photo for me? I’m so stressed worrying…

Question for you! I am allergic to Chlorhexidine, which antiseptic cleaner may I use topically that doesn’t contain Chlorhexidine?

  44. @CheapExplorer on October 3, 2024 at 10:19 pm

Hello, I’m currently using saline solution to wash my dog’s wound then betadine after. It’ healing good. A thought just came to me, is diluting (povidone iodine) betadine feminine wash to irrigate the wound then rinsing afterwards safe? Since it’s an antiseptic and for washing at the same time 😅

  50. @nataliemallette4108 on October 3, 2024 at 10:30 pm

So once applying the honey, for the next day how do you wash it off to apply a new layer? Do you clean again with chlorhexidine then remove and apply the honey? (Asking cause my dog just had a big abcess drained and had stitches put in and a drainage tube, after 5 days (today) drainage tube came out and they took the stitches out as well and now left a huge open wound which they advise to keep open and clean with a solution (I have chlorhexidine and honey). Not sure why they removed the stitches as well after only 5 days.
