i have a poodle that is NOT treat oriented, nor toy. what do i do for training?

  2. @ElizabethLongacre on October 3, 2024 at 9:40 pm

I am trying to use this training video for my 4 year old, rescued Brittany who was never leash trained. Before going out she will look at me. Once we’re out the door, she will not look at me. For the last 3 days, we have been out the door and had stood almost an hour waiting for her to look back at me. I will then take her back inside and start over. What am I doing wrong, or does it just take more time?

  3. @dianebaum91 on October 3, 2024 at 9:43 pm

the main thing is consistency! You can’t just do this one day a week and the rest of the time, be sloppy. I have a four month old English setter who, in the last couple of weeks, thinks I need to become a windsock! No way…I have tried other things and she is just so hard headed, so I will try this this evening and see if it changes things a bit. I do want for her to be a dog I can be proud of, it will take a bit but I am patient!!

I have x3 dogs and it’s impossible to take one dog at a time without the other dogs knowing so by the time your trying to separate the dogs they are already hyped up and very difficult to settle to get to that point where your starting

Otherwise I can see how some of these elements would work for my most difficult

I would like another video with a young pointer in a neighborhood full of underbrush and squirrels.

  6. @HeartBeatAngel on October 3, 2024 at 9:46 pm

but she’s a golden. goldens by breed and nature are one of the easiest to train because its in their nature to seek to please. can you repeat this technique with a dog who is stubborn and hyper by nature?

  7. @hayrunnisasahin1033 on October 3, 2024 at 9:47 pm

My neighbours have a dog that they dont really care for much and never quite trained and my doctor recently prescribed me some walks so i thought id just walk him so we could both benefit but hes pulling a LOT, im gona take some cat treats with me and try this today!

1:46 right off the bat, standing with the door wide open it’s not going to work with the mosquitoes, flies, and 100° Heat! That’s just for starters!

  18. @avicantrainingacademy9285 on October 3, 2024 at 9:54 pm

Good video. With extreme pulling I use also the halti. In about 15 min I get the perfect walk

My dog is 4 months old and has bitten the leash since the day we brought her home. I have tried everything and watched so many videos and just can’t get her to stop jumping and biting every leash I have ever tried. Walks are a nightmare and stressful, oh my gosh.

  20. @ICrich-j9d on October 3, 2024 at 9:54 pm

We are about to begin the training and wanted to know your thoughts on using a "bungee no pull" leash that applies tension on it’s own in lieu of applying the light "bump bump but" technique with a regular leash when we feel tension on it

  21. @googleuser8211 on October 3, 2024 at 9:55 pm

I have an 11 year old beagle who has never been trained or walked much before now… what a nightmare! Thank you…

  22. @markabrice on October 3, 2024 at 9:59 pm

A simple head collar solved the problem *immediately* with my dog Homer, probably a malinois-and-god-knows-what-else mix. He pulled like a sled dog when I first got him, but a Gentle Leader head collar put a stop to the behavior in just one walk. It was amazing.

  23. @KainHerringCorey on October 3, 2024 at 9:59 pm

What kind of doggy treats are perfect for rewarding that’s healthy?

  24. @35branok on October 3, 2024 at 9:59 pm

Nothing I try works. He gets so distracted.

  25. @susantunbridge4612 on October 3, 2024 at 10:00 pm

I have used Winifred Gibson Strickland’s "Expert Obedience Training for Dogs", and she advocates the use of a slip collar, which has worked for me, but it could be better, so I’ll check this out. Standard Poodles. One was like power steering, so easily trained, the other was capable of dragging me down an icy sidewalk on my stomach, slip collar or not.
I could never understand how anyone thinks they can teach a dog to heel or behave while on a harness, or where they get the idea that a harness is any kind of control. I have had Siberian Huskies. Harnesses for dogs are for pulling things, just as they are for horses.
Waiting for an Airedale puppy, and possibly an English Setter.

  26. @Livemoorejoy on October 3, 2024 at 10:00 pm

This dog does not look like she’s ready to explode out the door. Are you kidding me?

  27. @dianekunkel6743 on October 3, 2024 at 10:02 pm

    Thanks!

  28. @liztrujillo6572 on October 3, 2024 at 10:03 pm

Carol is an expert I can count on to learn from. Please eliminate the annoying music in the background. It is distracting from the task at hand. Carol does not need the goofy music to catch our attention. Thanks, Carol, for your genuine love of dogs.

  29. @Neophage on October 3, 2024 at 10:06 pm

Is it enough for them to simply look back in my general direction or must they make definite eye contact?

  30. @ciaraspb on October 3, 2024 at 10:07 pm

My puppy pulls me to go back home. I have to carry him out and he just pulls to go back home. I don’t know what to do.

  31. @shoresy4820 on October 3, 2024 at 10:07 pm

My golden has great listening skills inside just can tell he gets distracted easily outside, if I say his name it’s like he doesn’t even hear it outside
I’m working on this technique and it’s helping little by little
    Takes alot of patience

  32. @marihun9594 on October 3, 2024 at 10:07 pm

I need an open space so things would be much easier.

It’s always amazing watching Carol work with a dog. It’s the timing of responses that when learning give dogs such great information and sets them up to succeed!

  36. @DestinysBullshit on October 3, 2024 at 10:15 pm

I gave my puppy American stuffy mixed bull mastiff to a friend, now almost 2 years old. he never trains him or walks. He is staying with him again, i cant handling him. He hates kids and attacks 3 kids. He pulls and doesn’t listen, when walk he runs to try to fight with big dogs. I think he will be put down by the government government for these behaviours one day. I’m 36 old and African live in Australia. So I don’t know much about dogs. Originally had an English stuffy which I still have and is easy for me. Now 2 dogs again and I’m very sad. Thanks for this video. I will do my best and work hard to keep everyone safe and him

  37. @Carlos-d6l on October 3, 2024 at 10:16 pm

So would you do all these exercises in one outting? Or would you practice the door exercise for a few sessions, then introduce a bit of “walking” back and forth and so on?

  38. @user-pc6zn1vy9d on October 3, 2024 at 10:19 pm

My dog instantly flips around on me when I open the front door, even with the Martingale leash I don’t trust her because I live near a busy road.

  39. @laprock on October 3, 2024 at 10:20 pm

It all starts by first putting on an appropriate leash on your dog. Those simple neck collar leashes are actually doing damage to their trachea, causing trachea deviation in many dogs as they age.

  40. @FunnyBunny_99 on October 3, 2024 at 10:24 pm

I have two pups (1 year and 10 months). Walking them together for some reason became impossible so I had to go back to basics and I’ve had to walk them alone and reinforce training and let me tell you, WOW. I did all steps with both separately and I can say, we didn’t walk far but the quality of our walks is something I haven’t enjoyed in months. THANK YOU!!

  41. @sweetlorraine6982 on October 3, 2024 at 10:27 pm
