The First Steps For Training Your Rescue/Rehomed/Adult Dog!

The First Steps For Training Your Rescue/Rehomed/Adult Dog!

When it comes to adult dog training, there are several ways to use puppy training strategies that are just as important (maybe even more important) to teach your dog to listen and to show them that you’re actually WORTH listening to! This can be even more important if your adult dog is new to you. Rescue dog training, rehomed dog training, shelter dogs that come from the shelter and into your home need training. They may already know how to walk on a leash or respond to their name. But you need them to know that they need to listen every time. You also need to keep your dog safe and give them the most comfortable introduction to your family possible. In this video, we’ll talk about how to do that.

I just adopted a one year old golden retriever and my first problem is finding what treats he might like. He was fed with human food previously and he doesn’t like ANYTHING for dogs. He is not even eating. Please any advice

Education aside, I like how mac just does a quick glance at the camera in the beginning. Super cute.

What type of treats do you use when training? I bought "training treats" but my dog does not like them. I saw that you also used dog kibble as a training treat as well, but my dog does not care that much for her dry dog food. I have to entice her to eat it by mixing some soft food with it. Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

I’m getting a 1 year old dog this Friday and I’m soaking all of this in. I’m a first time dog owner and I’m nervous but I need him for emotional support.

What brand of treats are you using?

I recently adopted an aggressive, large pit bull/terrier mix. He barks at me and others and is wild in general. What can I do to teach him not to bark at me and how do I gain his trust? He’s only lived with a foster family, other than that he was on the streets. I don’t want to give up on him but he’s really difficult…

I have an almost 18 year old Pug/Boston Terrier. She’s in remarkable shape but starting to get arthritis. We also live in South Carolina so she can overheat more easily. I want to retrain her to go on a fake grass box. She NEVER will go in the house unless sick. I know she is confused. How can I teach her that now all of a sudden it’s ok to go inside? PLEASE HELP! I’m not good at YouTube so forgive me for not knowing how to directly message. Thank you for everything you do. Love how thorough and clear y’all are. Huge fan.

My husband and i just took in a male Chihuahua Dobie mix who was dumped in Fresno. We have an older German/Stafford whos 4 yrs and smart as a whip. Our new dog needs to learn all the basics. Im curious if i train our new dog ( Mango) without our other dog around with that give us better results. Thank you

I have a dog that ive had since he was 10 weeks. I was ashamed to see how he reacted towards someone walking by the house and i realize i failed training him. So im relearning and starting from the beginning.

I Am about to adopt a 1 yr old Beagle mix puppy who has been rehomed a couple times due to excessive barking. his current people dont want him, and I want to take over and give him the life he really deserves because his caregiver (who happens to be a Vet student and is the one that truly know him) Told me he is a really sweet dog and I believe her. This is my first time adopting a dog on my own, and I just subbed to the channel because I feel like I am going to need a lot of help with him but I am sure that with some love, patience and practice, he will become the greatest dog that those people really wish they had!.

In my mind, dogs, like children, need discipline. Newspapers are for discipline. Hands are for loving!

This is one of the most useful tip videos of practical application ive seen. Its simple, easy to understand and follow, and has reasonably expected outcomes

  30. @Judi4Him4Ever on October 3, 2024 at 10:12 pm

It’s more challenging with a tiny “designer” dog! Our rescue Havanese is perpetually sneaky and resistant. 😩

  31. @georgewoodland1766 on October 3, 2024 at 10:14 pm

We have an adult rescue dog and she doesn’t really respond to treats. What do I need to do to reward for training?

I need help. I have an 11 week old rescued abandoned puppy and im lost and can’t afford training

  37. @joshstorie246 on October 3, 2024 at 10:22 pm

Super outdated methods reward based training teaches your dog nothing they won’t listen to you with out one it has been proven that reinforcement is a far better method look at the best trainers in the world which you are far from theyre not constantly cramming treats down the dogs throat to get them to listen so sad that you’re somehow considered a trainer

  38. @brightenburks3657 on October 3, 2024 at 10:22 pm

I lose my patience with my pup, but realized it’s neither of our faults, it’s about communication. I need to remain patient and use every opportunity as a training opportunity. Difficulty, with distractions in each “training game” you have brought about has helped. Thank you so much

  39. @GinamarieTalford on October 3, 2024 at 10:23 pm

This all assumes they know how to sit and wait. Not with a rescue dog

  40. @yvonnew416 on October 3, 2024 at 10:23 pm

…and then we had a foster dog that did not eat nor was interested in food due to anxiety/ hyperenergetic state of mind in new environment after rehoming….obedience training became way more difficult

Moving to a new state in a little over a year. REALLY want a dog again after a few years (I’ve had 6 lovely dogs though). Been looking at shelters online. Noticed a lot of older-ish dogs at 5 or 6yrs old. Sucks everyone wants puppies. Trying to skip some of the puppy stage. So why not?
