Thank you for this. My wife and I just rescued a female dog and she’s pregnant. This is our first dog (not our first pet) and I’m glad I found this video. I will be using these strategies with the mom and the puppy that we keep.

Are prong collars recommended for dogs that pull? I have only heard negative things about them but often see them in training videos. We adopted a one year old pitty from the shelter about 1.5 months ago and he is already so much better behaved than he was when we first got him but he really lacks focus when on walks sometimes, it can be very frustrating. We have a slip lead, bungee/waist leash, harness and regular collar/leash setup and none of them truly help keep him from pulling. Do you (or anyone reading this) strongly recommended or not recommended prong collars to help with this? Thanks in advance!

Amazing! The dog has been mistreated in the past and is deaf, and you have turned it into a very calm and obedient (and obviously very loved) dog! You are far beyond a simple dog trainer!

I had a deaf Rottie 20 years ago. Took me a while to fall in that’s why she wasn’t taking any notice of commands and her recall was dreadful. Once I realised she was deaf and started using hand signals she was an amazing dog. Unfortunately she had many health issues and died at 5. I have never been able to remove her picture from my profile here despite me having more dogs since. She started my journey with Rottweilers. Great tips in this post

I have adopted an abandoned dog at 6 months of age, he’s an absolute ray of joy. While I love him to death, he’s starting to drive me absolutely nuts, he absolutely does not listen, keeps on destroying things, and is hard to take on a walk. I know he needs to go for a walk, but I get very frustrated on his absolutely lack of obedience. I look foolish for not having control of him and I’m losing my patience, which make some very absolutely coz I love him so much. 😣😣😣

What great information. I am bringing home an Akita/Husky mix and this helps a lot! My first guardian dog and trying to get things right and do things right. It is a bit intimidating and I am looking forward to the challenge, Luckly, he’s from a good home but I think his world has been pretty small, mostly inside. He has a tremendous toy drive that I am excited to work. The owners limited his toy play due to his size. Do you recommend sleeping in a crate until the relationship is mutual?

I’m helping my nan and brother take care of a British Bulldog. She’s a female, have had her for three days so far, she knows to follow me and my brother when off leash, doesn’t go near grass as we don’t let her because she’s allergic to grass, she doesn’t listen to basic commands such as sit, stay, etc. She sort of pulls on the leash, especially when it comes to meeting other dogs. Also, any food recommendations for her? She apparently can’t eat dog food with any wheat in them

  41. @Hunter_Drummer on October 3, 2024 at 10:22 pm

What if you’re dog isn’t food driven? My Husky wasn’t even though he also ate fresh cooked food

  42. @lawrencewhitlock5666 on October 3, 2024 at 10:23 pm

My dog will not walk on his leash

  43. @lennylunden835 on October 3, 2024 at 10:23 pm

Crate training is terrible for dogs and absolutely unnecessary… the argument that in the wild they love dens… YES! They can come and go as they please…

They do not like being locked in a crate… at all‼️

  44. @allieGirl146 on October 3, 2024 at 10:24 pm

God bless you for saving this poor baby. He looks like he was abused😢

  45. @parkerallen2765 on October 3, 2024 at 10:25 pm

Is it a tired dog is easier to Train and adapt or is it that a dog that isn’t bored is easier to train

  46. @abbiebeast on October 3, 2024 at 10:26 pm

Completely disagree with your crate training position. Only necessary to correct a behavioral issue from my experience, then once corrected forget it. What good is it to have a dog (especially a working class dog) that’s not guarding your home or on alert vetting possible dangers. After all this is their sense of purpose within the Pack (You and Fam) – so let them do the job they’ve been hired to do aside being a companion and pet.

  47. @jaimmye.warren548 on October 3, 2024 at 10:28 pm

Question: What if I am adopting a 5 month old dog and it shows food aggression, and she has never been with me before, what do you think is the best way to deal with this behavior?

  48. @ghengis430 on October 3, 2024 at 10:29 pm

I’ve had my rescue for a week. He doesn’t respond to treats, and is a bit confused so far, although we’ve got the barking at every little noise on the way. I don’t think he’d been for a walk at the rescue centre, properly, as his nails are so long. He loves it, and one longer one in the morning, and a shorter one in the afternoon has him flat out. I haven’t got room to put the crate up, as he’s somewhat bigger than expected. Fills up a room in my tiny two up two down!
I’ll follow your advice from now on, it’s so easy to understand!
    Thank you ❤
