Very informative video, but one question. Do I put anything in an empty crate with an 8 week old mini dachsund, like a blanket or pad to keep warm, or a solid chew, or is it dangerous for the pup? Like chewing a mattress or her blanket? I pick her up in 10 days, please answer….

we have had two puppies for 4 nights so far. Did the first 3 wrong, watched this video and like magic they sleep through the night. I’m in awe!! Thank you so much for this advice. Looking forward to day 5 and hoping it wasn’t a fluke!! LOL

Oh how I wish it was this easy
I’ve fed my pup all of his meals in his crate, played crate games with him, covered the crate and left him inside for small increments at a time but yet he still cries and barks while in the crate 😢
Can’t go anywhere or leave my house

Thank you for this video. My precious doggie of 15.5 years of age, Lila, passed in june😔. When she was a puppy we crate trained her and it was very helpful in many ways . We’re getting a puppy soon but we can’t remember how we trained Lila, so I want to thank you for the reminders❤.

I used your video to train my 2 australian shepherds, it worked like a charm, we have a routine at night now, they know that "crate time" means go potty and head to their crates, no problem, and they are always happy as they know a treat is coming. I definitely recommended this video. 😊

Why in United states the solution is to have a crate? I have many dogs at home and never, ever had to use a crate. Don’t you think its just enough the crate you all are living in? Don’t have a pet if you don’t know how to train them to live in your house.

  12. @Henlarious on October 3, 2024 at 9:48 pm

I’ve had three dogs. All you do is place the crate right to your bed for the first few weeks. That’s it. It doesn’t need to be in another room. If the dog is next to your bed it is fine. I don’t know how this isn’t common sense.

My puppy is not food motivated. Any advice? He can go a whole day without eating if I don’t hand feed him. What can I do?

Day 4 as a doodle mom. On Day 1, I tried to let her sleep in the bed with me but she’s so tiny. Literally 2lbs! I was scared that I was gonna crush her or she’d fall behind my backboard or fall off of the bed since she cant jump yet. My instincts kept waking me up in the middle of the night to make sure she was safe. I ended up just starting to put her in the crate to sleep. She’d cry but eventually get over it & sleep the whole night. But today, I felt like the crying was longer and felt bad because the crate seemed like the only logical option for now. I thought her cries were “sad cries”. Maybe it is but I took your advice about covering the whole crate instead of the back and she instantly stopped crying!! I was even able to get up a few times without “waking her” and causing the crying again. You were spot on about the doggie FOMO! I too need a small confined space for when im overstimulated 😂

Are you saying at night the puppy does not have any bedding to sleep on in the crate?

Hi, I’ll be getting my corgi puppy in less than a month’s time when she turns 8 weeks. At 2 months, keeping her in the crate overnight, would i have to get her to go potty every 2 hours?

  21. @PattiSerio on October 3, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Bought the heartbeat stuffed dog and the calming spray of mother dogs pheromes….here’s hoping they work!

  24. @agustinusrangel2575 on October 3, 2024 at 10:00 pm

Awesome all these tips make so much sense but it’s the consistency and patience that’s difficult. Also I live alone so sleeping the puppy alone is not exciting

  27. @brendamartinelli3222 on October 3, 2024 at 10:07 pm

    I’m so confused about:
“Don’t take a crying puppy out of the crate”
But also advice saying not to let a dog panic (scream, howl, etc).

What is the ideal set up when crating overnight? I have her crate covered, white noise on, she willingly naps in the crate during the day.
She awoke at 2 am (that’s at least when I heard her yelling)…but at that point you’re not supposed to take them out.
    Help!

Can anyone give me some tips? I just got a dog(about 8weeks old) and he won’t stop whining when I’m not near him even at night. I put his creat in the living room because my room have carpet and I don’t want him making a mess and almost every time I go to my room he just start whining or barking

  29. @Justuslupiani on October 3, 2024 at 10:09 pm

What do you suggest for people who have work during the day?

  30. @mamacamano7507 on October 3, 2024 at 10:10 pm

My 9 month old great pyrenees sleeps through the night, I only put her to sleep with me on my bed the very first night, however, I think she wakes up to pee on the rug, so I’m going to try the small crate for sleeping

  31. @rufus5966 on October 3, 2024 at 10:12 pm

I guess no one has really mastered how to train your dog to go to bed at night, when there’s loud noises going on. Like cars racing, dogs in the neighborhood barking, sirens, thunder…… I could go on. I’ve always held them and reassured them by saying you’re inside you’re safe you’re with me. And that works for about 90% of the things that go on. When they are in the crate and you are in bed and Loud Noises start going off…its hard not to go in and comfort them.

  32. @veronicalara8374 on October 3, 2024 at 10:12 pm

So if puppy can’t have any bedding until they are done teething, does that mean they have to sleep in an empty crate? This is so sad!

I appreciate the great info in these videos. But, I wish you would cut down on the frequent references to other videos and/or links to affiliate products. I understand the obvious need to generate views and clicks. But, you make those references so often that I feel they detract and distract from the actual content.

Nothing works with my puppy first I can’t get him in it, I put food in it and still won’t go in it and when I did stuff him in it he cried like a human , never heard noises come out of a dog like he was, tried this for 3 no sleep nights and gave up now he sleeps with me in the bed , he jumps down when he needs to go crap in the living room so I have been trying to catch him and it worked a couple times , I figure he will be trained in a while I’ll just deal with it, wish there was a magic way

  36. @Crazypitbull16 on October 3, 2024 at 10:18 pm

Is better to let my pup sleep in a crate or a play pen? I have her in play pen when I’m at work. Unsure if that’s good or should I put the crate inside her playpen now that she uses her pads for the bathroom?

  37. @irmalicecarrion8774 on October 3, 2024 at 10:20 pm

Me watching this desperately trying to make my puppy husky to sleep in the crate all night 🤦🏾‍♀️

  38. @Telperuniel on October 3, 2024 at 10:20 pm

Hello. We just got a new puppy! She is 4 months old, and has had some previous exposure to crate training. We have been implementing your suggestions and although it has been better, she is still waking up 3-4 times a night. She regressed slightly after bringing her home (potty training wise), so we have been taking her out for a pee each time she wakes up. She hasn’t had an accident in her crate(mostly anxiety we assumed) for 3 nights now. We would really like to have her wake up less, should we go down as often now that she is showing more control, and try to calm her but not take her out?

What helped us is putting a nice cute thick dark blanket over our puppies crate. It became his den! Believe it or not the covered crate mimics their wolf den.

LISTEN TO ME! If you don’t read any other comments, PLEASE read mine…. I decided on my 27th birthday that I was finally old enough and responsible enough to buy a puppy. So I did. An 11-week-old pomeranian. The first night was BRUTAL. my neighbor upstairs has 2 young girls and I didn’t want them to have a rough day at school because my puppy couldn’t stop screaming, so I took her out of the crate and slept with her on the couch. Also put her in the crate for like, an hour, while I was working so she could prepare for tonight. She screamed the whole hour. But THEN. I told my fiancé to pick up one of the heartbeat dog things. Guess what yall. 26 minutes. She cried for 26 minutes and now she’s asleep. Please for the love of your sleep, your neighbors, your sanity, BUY A HEARTBEAT THING

I have a canvas crate. My pup chews frantically on any thing she can while in there. Do you recommend a metal crate over a canvas one?
