How To Make Beef Jerky Treats For Dogs

How To Make Beef Jerky Treats For Dogs

Hey Y’all. I wanted to share with you an awesome snack I make for my dogs, I make this quite often and my dogs love them. Its Homemade DIY Dehydrated Beef Jerky Dog Treats. I use very lean ground hamburger meat, 96/4 ratio. It’s a bit pricey but it’s worth it. I’d like to add that if you have a meat grinder, It is a lot cheaper to grind your own meat from a lean roast like Eye Of Round.
I really hope your dogs love this jerky as much as mine do.

Here is the recipe:
*2 pounds of very lean Ground Meat like hamburger
*Use a jerky press or a rolling pin to make the strips.
*Dehydrate the meat for around 3 hours.
** This will vary depending on the meat used and the thickness
*Store in a baggie.
** You can freeze or vacuum seal the jerky and place in the fridge or freezer.

Great video! We’ve been buying jerky for our dog but they are so darn expensive and, like you said, there’s so much stuff in the ingredients that are not good for our buddies. We will definitely try out your method. I have a question: so the dehydrator we have is really old, just plugs in but doesn’t make any sound. We’ve used it to dry fruits and veggies and it’s good for that – but I wonder if beef requires a certain temperature?

The dehydrator link you give is not showing the same unit – maybe they don’t have it anymore. Anyway, thanks so much for this video, it really helps to know how easy it is to make jerky for our buddies. Love your pups, they are so darn cute!

You taking the time to do that for your pets shows your heart of Gold. Many people don’t care much about what they allow their pets to eat and thats very very sad. I say, feed your pets whats best for them so we can avoid vet bills. Wheat and corn is not good for animals and so many store bought foods contain that stuff and whats worse..its most likely all genetically modified so its not real food. Also, close proximity to wifi modems, things like that can harm animals just like it harms humans. So, I wonder how a nice fresh pumpkin all cooked and pureed and then mixed in with the meat would dehydrate? This was a great video, thankyou.

I slice arm roast, round, pork sirloin, lean pork roasts. I use dark soy (no sodium) apple cider vinegar. Sometimes I’ll add sweet potato baby food (no additives). I cold smoke it dry sometimes and it’s been really good for them. I don’t use any ingredients that aren’t dog safe. Really good on their teeth.

I’m not a jerky girl but those damned Zuke’s dog treats are like $17 a pound and I knew there had to be a better way to give my gals some treats when we’re out on our early morning walks/ball throwing fun times. I had no idea there was a jerky gun, but just ordered one. thanks so much and my dogs thank you as well. 🙂

That’s exactly why I am watching this video. I have an older Boardercollie with pancreatitis and he can’t have anything with spices or anything. I’m trying to figure out a safe treat option for him.

  16. @melvidal on October 3, 2024 at 9:57 pm

You can add ground ginger. They love it & It’s good for their digestive tract

  17. @teresaradcliff5646 on October 3, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Wonderful video! Thanks buddy! I’m also going to try ground turkey jerky. I hope it works in my oven because I don’t have a dehydrator.

I adopted a 4 year old male German Shepherd and wanted healthy dod treats. I ended up buying liver jerky for him but it was costing me a good amount of pennies. I talked to my local butcher and now I get beef bones and beef liver plus beef heart. I dry the heart and liver and he goes crazy for it. I am now going to get beef lung for him. Being a good pet parent is not easy but I enjoy seeing him loving what I do for him.

  26. @chamelisa on October 3, 2024 at 10:12 pm

Thanks! Had no idea we could make jerky from ground beef. I’m definitely going to try this for my ol’ dog.

  27. @karlschofield9651 on October 3, 2024 at 10:14 pm

I totally agree with you! Great Video! Amazon has Dechra Eicosa Omega for dogs. The first few days gave them silky soft coat and firmer stool. Next few weeks they cut down on itchy skin. Now I give it to them EVERYDAY!!!! That and now starting on a good probiotic. Helps a lot on top of a good dog food like Ziwi Peak it’s a five star food!

Can you mix organ meat if you do wild game? as I understand it predatory animals go for the organs first then the muscles. not that your dogs are hunting wild game but im wondering if the vitamins and stuff would add to the treats?

  38. @christiedecker2724 on October 3, 2024 at 10:29 pm

As a vegetarian, this is helpful for me because I wouldn’t know how to do this kind of thing. I just made baked chicken for my dog for the first time yesterday, and turned some of that into dehydrated chicken pieces for treats for him…Thank you! (while I may never eat flesh foods, I don’t expect my dog to do the same and freeze-dried and dehydrated meats are EXPENSIVE!) Again thank you and Blessings!

  40. @amandarodriguez9996 on October 3, 2024 at 10:31 pm

How long would this take in an oven and at what temp ? I would love to make this for my baby. 🐶😃

  41. @mightymcgee5622 on October 3, 2024 at 10:31 pm

Thanks I needed a new treat for my agility dog this is perfect . He has kidney disease we keep things simple no Preservatives or meat fillers . home cooking all his meals. Didn’t want to give him regular jerky too much salt this is great . My only comment might be to add some vitamins to the mix to make it healthier

  42. @XTWISTEDT420x on October 3, 2024 at 10:31 pm

  44. @jennyferdelacruz4575 on October 3, 2024 at 10:32 pm

Thanks for the idea. Instead of buying for treats for my dog. ill make my own now😊

  45. @jannellmeagher638 on October 3, 2024 at 10:33 pm

We use lean, too, but I only use grass fed and finished beef. It is expensive, but if we don’t invest in health, we pay in illness. We raw feed only. We balance and complete meals. Zero kibble.

Great video and idea. I’m going to buy that jerkypresserthingy…never knew it existed lol!
