I started a training with my dog in a "dog school". I was trying to teach her how to NOT pull, using the tree technique, trying to go oposite side (but it always ended up with playing yoyo, and my dog was this yoyo). NOTHING was working. Well – she is very calm when we are walking in the places she knows and where is a loooot of space. But any new place or going to just next to the road – it is non stop pulling. The trainer in out school showed us this this technique – to jerk her when she pull. The problem is – I cannot jerk her without pulling her, because she is so fast and so heavy (32 kg which is half of my weigh). After watching your video I bought the spiked collar for my dog. I hope it will help. I will try to come back here and let you know how is the progress going on 🙂 Keep your fingers crossed for my and my dog 🙂

How do I train my non food motivated dog

  4. @applemom455 on October 3, 2024 at 9:36 pm

I love how you got right to it. No fluff. I don’t have time for fluff. If you don’t start showing me what I need in 30 sec, I’m moving on. 😂 very concise and inspiring.

I have a dog that does not pay attention to me AT ALL outside the yard. Even when I call his name he won’t even look. I’m going to try this method and check back in a week. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Edit: I have done this daily for the past 8 days, but without a prong collar as they’re illegal here. Our results are a definite improvement, however we still have an extremely long way to go. I still can’t hold his attention for more than a few seconds at a time, and we can’t have any distractions around at all for even that to work. Although I find it a lot easier to get his attention now, I just can’t seem to keep it. With that said he is extremely hyperactive, and I believe this is because he was left on a short chain for the first year of his life. He was never taught anything, never even spoken to as far as I’m aware. I’ve had him for only a few weeks at this point, however he does listen to commands and pays attention to hand signals inside the home and yard, just not as soon as we step outside. I do think this technique is working, it’s just tough trying to break through to him and keep his attention. We’re going to keep at it and if we ever have a sudden breakthrough I’ll update again haha.

My husband and I did this technique with our 140 lb Newfoundland, he is 1 year old, he is a powerful dog, and has literally taken me down by pulling, I actually stopped holding the leash on walks only my husband, but the walks were miserable, but he needs his walks to burn off that energy, and get his exercise, THANK YOU Garret for this video, we are well into this training, we ACTUALLY look forward to our walks now, great video, stick with it, it works!

I got a 2 year old German shepherd she’s not food motivated at all but she still was learning and getting better but my problem comes with distraction she starts barking like crazy at ppl and other animals walking by. She’s friendly but I don’t want ppl walking by thinking she’ll attack them when she’s just excited. I just need a way to keep her focus on the walk and stop getting riled up when seeing something or someone. Is there any suggestions?

I have a 1 yr old Boston Terrorist (terrier) I have really gotta look into the online training school for this dog!! My old Boston Terrier, I was able to train him to stay in his backyard with no fence, this one thinks HE’S the boss!!

My two year old pitbull/German Shepard has been a puller her whole life. I’ve tried treats, different "no-pull" harness, elastic leashes, etc… last night I got so fed up I was about to quit. Her pulling hurts my shoulders and back. I watched this video a couple times and went on Amazon and bought the collar. I got it today and just got back from the easiest 4 mile walk with her. It took three U-turns for her to figure out to stay next to me. THANK YOU!!!

best trainer. I teach at a dog school myself and always get tips and tricks from DIY K9. Here in Germany we don’t have any of these collars, but with the right technology you can also use a retriever collar and a 50kg Rottweiler. Thank you very much for your videos 👍🏻

  13. @rustyroosterrusty on October 3, 2024 at 9:49 pm

I just got a beautiful 5 year old pitbull from the Maui humane society. The volunteers/handlers there (bless them) could not break this dog of pulling. I took her home and in two walks using just the U turn technique she is almost cured. Can’t wait to try all the techniques together. This dog has been pulling her whole life and showing huge improvement after 2 walks.

  14. @NavinRamdhany on October 3, 2024 at 9:50 pm

One of the best trainer in the world, really nice to see how you train dogs, I am Navin from Mauritius, i have a six months cane corso, still struggling when taking her for a walk, will put into practice exactly how you’ve done it in the video but unfortunately I don’t have a prong collar infact I have a choke collar will that be ok according to your experience as a professional dog trainer ?

  15. @jeanlucdecoster on October 3, 2024 at 9:51 pm

Amazing. This actually works. And I didn’t even use a prong collar or treats/clicker.

I’ll use those on the next walk or two to really hammer my puppies training home, but wow I cannot overstate how effective this is

  16. @sydmichelle1106 on October 3, 2024 at 9:51 pm

This helped the leash pulling issue with one session with my 5 year old Weimaraner/pit mix. Thank you! I am still going to be consistent with training. She is very reactive and unfortunately all the training goes out the window when she sees another dog. She will bite the leash and bite me in attempt to get over to other dogs. I’m unsure what to do. 😭

  17. @DD-qd4dy on October 3, 2024 at 9:51 pm

Great work, you can clearly see the difference from the beginning to the end of video.

  18. @hughmansonwarner6018 on October 3, 2024 at 9:53 pm

The best no bs trainer out there !!

  19. @Sunpulse2024 on October 3, 2024 at 9:55 pm

I did this with my dog it worked well until he saw people and wanted to eat them. He didn’t care about food or me he just wanted to go after them. When I would try to use leash to pop when he wasn’t focused on me which then frustrated him so he started going after the leash and trying to tug a war it

  20. @lucasthiele2169 on October 3, 2024 at 9:58 pm

Look how happy and prancy and the how high her tail is in the beginning of the video compared to half way through once you start using the popping. Tail is tucked insanely far under her, she is panting very hard and is super stressed out.

I’m not saying your method isn’t working because she becomes more obedient but there’s got to be a better way than doing this to her

  21. @cynthiaconley6881 on October 3, 2024 at 10:00 pm

Wow have an older that’s never been trained
    Buying a prong collar
    Thanks
    Will post again.

  22. @jerrypredmore8793 on October 3, 2024 at 10:00 pm

I got a prong collar as a recommendation of a friend I haven’t had a chance to work my pisset hound yet. Half pit half basset. She was a rescue with issues but has received lots of love but still a strange strain of resistance to listen and receive encouragement. But I’m not giving up I’ll try this and hopefully succeed.

  23. @bunnykisses2326 on October 3, 2024 at 10:04 pm

I’ve watched hrs of this guy in the last few days and I’m so happy I did! I adopted a pittie a year ago and was told she walked well on the leash and did well with other dogs. She is a friendly girl with people but too rough. Also she was terrible on our walks and aggressive towards other dogs. I found out she was a bait dog! I did know she was scarred and had been injured before and didn’t see any of these problems coming. I’m in my 50s, legally blind and have some physical disability so walking her has been very difficult and stressful. In ONE DAY, 2 walks has changed everything! It’s still not perfect and I’ve also learned I had to train myself at the same time which has been harder than training her. She’s doing an amazing job and today is the first time since I’ve had her she hasn’t tripped me during one of our walks. THANK YOU! I will keep watching and learning to make her the best she can be ❤

So I’m from Michigan. I have a cavalier King Charles spaniel. She is two years old. She used to pull really hard and now after doing this for like he said 10 to 15 minutes, she barely pulled it all the time people just treat their control spaniel as teddy bears and like oh it’s so cute so I’m not gonna train it because that would hurt it, but with this training, she’s doing so much better thank you for the help

  25. @Molly-do5go on October 3, 2024 at 10:06 pm

That looks like my Molly! I have a 2 year old and she is lively!

  26. @asdf12347109 on October 3, 2024 at 10:08 pm

Excellent video. Thank you. I had no idea about "single hook double hook" or popping. My GSD is comfortable just steadily yanking, choking himself on dual hook… prong collar is not a deterrent at all!

  27. @jeanpierregiraldo695 on October 3, 2024 at 10:08 pm

Can i do this when my golden has to go potty? Or should I wait until after he’s finished with business?

  28. @grahamkracker456 on October 3, 2024 at 10:09 pm

My German Shepherd is not very food motivated. He responds well with the prong collar the u-turns and stopping, but I’m worried I can’t reward him well for true heel walking when he’s not very motivated by the treats like my Lab was. She was addicted to the food so it was easy.

Not giving up by any means, but any advice or tips would be appreciated on reward for non-food motivated dogs

Bruh it’s 9/6/24- I just found this video. My 65 pound 1 year old American bully is a puller, and likes to try and play tug of war with the leash(my fault, I started that as a game when younger would take her for a walk then off the leash and play-bad move) we did this last night for literally 10 min. And her walking improved 100% had dinner then we tried again but this time it was a family walk with our other dog. Took some additional correcting but for the most part was so much more tuned in. I didnt have the print collar handy but did have my lead leash. I agree, without the prongs it’s harder on you and the pup.

  32. @garyedwards4020 on October 3, 2024 at 10:15 pm

I’m going to try this with my 1 year old. She is a handful and your videos have guided me on the right path.
    Thank you. 😊

Hey man! Just wanna say off the rip, your diy k-9 courses have been a god send! I found you when I was researching Cane Corsos before I found a breeder, based on your advice that the breed is not for the novice dog owner or the faint of heart for that matter! And your methods have been nothing short of invaluable, and I can’t stress enough how you opened my eyes to the importance of the prong collar and the efficiency in which it produces! You’re a gangster when it comes to dog training and I myself and my family and Shelbie, 🐕 would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts! And on a sadder note! I’m very sorry to hear about Thanos! I watched him grow from a pup up to a very well trained beautiful, majestic beast that he was he will be missed by me for sure as I can only imagine he will by you and your family! Please get another Corso tho?? They really are the perfect k-9 in my eyes when properly trained! And Lord knows there isn’t a better trainer in the country! Your the man! And thanks again! Keep up the amazing work you do! 👍👍👍

  35. @heawin88 on October 3, 2024 at 10:18 pm

Holy shit. I just did this with my 4 year old who has been pulling on the leash and FINALLY something that works!! I followed the direction to the letter. A few pops, and a few whines later and he immediately fell in line. No more pulling, followed me when I turned, the whole lot.

Thank you SO SO much for helping me get my big guy in order. I feel like I will finally be able to take him walking past other dogs in the future. Thank you very much for the hope and clear directions!

I have a rescue pit Bull. Not sure of her age because she is a rescue. She has been with me almost 7 years and it has gotten very hard to walk her. I moved to Myrtle Beach and I live in an apartment so needless to say there are dogs all over. Angel wants to pull and not listen to me. I just really need help and advice. All she does is choke herself and almost makes me fall.
