How long do you leave the dog in the crate daily (staffy) do i get an elevated dog bed after crate training or at the same time? I just don’t wanna pay to know this information or watch a thousand more videos, there’s no way I’ll remember all this stuff from each video. It’d be nice to just have one long video for the first couple of months of having a pup. I’ll get there šŸ˜‚

So what do we actually do day 1 mate cuz this is mostly babble on doing summit with your dog day one but your not stating what exactly apart from toilet training which is an obvious one.

My poor little guy isnā€™t very interested in food as he just came to our home. However, I need to leave the house without him for half an hour. But he is so sad! Am I creating negative associations for him??

Iā€™d be worried that tapping the crate would make my dog nervous , jumpy and reactive? Have you had any experience of this.

I just got a 8 week old blue staffy and heā€™s been going mental so wanted to know how to crate train him and this video has worked within 15mins! Thank you for making this!

My dog has possessive aggression and he tends to take his items or unwanted items to certain areas. My concern is that with getting a crate, heā€™ll retreat there and then thereā€™s no way to have him let go of the item that heā€™s resource guarding. How can I work around this?

  7. @hmccormack9370 on October 3, 2024 at 9:34 pm

Amazing! My pup is 10 weeks old and happy to go and sleep in her crate, play or have her Kong in in with the door open.
Putting your instructions into action today and hope for your incredible resultsšŸ‘ thank you!!

If your dog is properly house and room trained, you donā€™t need to lock your dog in a crate.

I have some toys hanging from my puppy’s crate to encourage her to go in there and play and enjoy being in there. After watching this video I’m not sure whether I should take them out, as they encourage high energy and playing inside the crate. Should my puppy have toys etc in the crate? Or just water and her cushion/blankets? Thanks x

  16. @alexandercain5338 on October 3, 2024 at 9:41 pm

Dear Will, I completely love your videos, and greatly admire you as a dog trainer, THANK YOU millions for all your help! You are so loving, and kind, and do positive training with a minimum amount of necessary corrections, and… The only thing that leaves me a bit confused is this crate thing.

In my country, it is ILLEGAL to keep your dog closed in a crate. It is considered a violation of animal rights. They can be left in a safe room or pen, but they need to have enough space to walk around, and always have access to water. And if a crate is used as a safe den, it should always be kept open.
What do you think about this?.. What if… perhaps, this actually does make some sense?..

    Greetings from Finland!
My best wishes to you šŸ˜Š

  20. @MandrakeRoot-l5t on October 3, 2024 at 9:47 pm

Yes, but when you do that to get your dog into a crate with food, every time you want him to get into the crate heā€™s gonna expect food. How do you get him to just go into the crate without giving him food once heā€™s trained?

  21. @sofialopez-zz7oy on October 3, 2024 at 9:48 pm

This method just saved me with my puppy. she would whine and pounce on the crate trying to get out. At one point she bit the bars and somehow got her small jaw and teeth hooked onto the bars sideways and she couldnā€™t get her muzzle unstuck. I was terrified trying to figure out how to get her out potentially even needing to cut or pry open the crate bars because of how stuck she was. She got out safely on her own after calming down and wiggling herself out. Later after that I watched this video I learned what to do. But I decided to shush loudly instead of hitting the crate, itā€™s the same concept but she responded better to that. Shushing is also easier because I can do in from afar without needing to move to hit the crate. How this method worked so quickly? I donā€™t know, but It took only 3 minutes for her to understand. Like she actually stoped thrashing and crying like it was torture to be in her crate when itā€™s not. Iā€™m relieved sheā€™s safe and behaved now. Her Kong also played a role in helping her be distracted and settle. Will is definitely a great trainer with good experience who knows what to do. Iā€™m so grateful sheā€™s relaxed now and Iā€™m learning how to be a good loving leader ā¤

Do you have a recipe for the frozen meatsicle? I think that would help my dog out a lot.

  25. @tiah5881 on October 3, 2024 at 9:56 pm

Watched this video last night did like a 8 min crate train and that same night the puppy spend the entire night sleeping in it’s crate. Quietly and only made a fuss when he really had to go, he went immediately off on his potty training pad and went back into the crate, no meltdown. I highly recommend anyone watching to complete the video. I’ve been trying to crate train my puppy for a week and just 1 of his exercises made my puppy crate trained. I thought it was a spoof but today as I did my chores a put the puppy in and it immediately understood to be calm and quiet and wait until I’m ready to let it out.

Can you use a play pen for this or is it better to have a crate?

  29. @montee777 on October 3, 2024 at 10:06 pm

I’m doing the increments training from the other video. I put the big smoked bone in & thot for sure I’d have trouble getting it away from him. But, altho he wanted & loved it, he just sat there, waiting for me to come back. It was like, ok, I know this routine but I’m not touching the bone. It was strange. I got it past 3,15 sec crate times, none of which did he go after the bone? I even put p-nut butter, mixed with beef & stuffed it inside the bone to make it more enticing, but he didn’t go for it. However, after I take him out of the crate, he’ll go right back in & sleep. Crazy bcuz he’s never wanted to be in the crate with the door shut & even broke out of the last crate so I had to buy a very heavy duty one. After I do the timed segments, when outside the crate he’s going all over searching for the bone. So he wants it, but what is with him not even going after it while in the crate? Any ideas? Is this system still going to work?

My puppy doesnā€™t react to the crate tapping.

  34. @MentalApparitions on October 3, 2024 at 10:09 pm

This did not work at all. Tapping on the crate just made my puppy even more upset and made…

  35. @chanelicantbefucked on October 3, 2024 at 10:09 pm

Cage, not crate. lets not get it mixed up, its a Cage. You are putting your dog in a cage because you are too lazy or don’t have the time to teach it proper boundaries as a puppy. This is not normal in most of the world. It’s considered cruel.
If you cant teach a puppy not to mess up your stuff, you shouldn’t have a dog.

  36. @ModulatedSubnet on October 3, 2024 at 10:10 pm

My puppy has stopped listening to the shush and cage tapsā€¦ what do I do?

  37. @lanehoz on October 3, 2024 at 10:13 pm

Hi, I was wondering – this guide is assuming that the puppy has established potty training yes? Otherwise accidents would happen in the crate.

  38. @Mark-uc4dd on October 3, 2024 at 10:13 pm

Would tapping the crate not make the dog jumpy and nervous in later life?

  39. @EdithBrown-v2d on October 3, 2024 at 10:15 pm

    Great video.
I got a rescue I am getting ready to crate train.

  40. @helenamcdonnell6472 on October 3, 2024 at 10:17 pm

what do you think of being put in a crate for 23 hours a day. i mean the owners are right beside them, not just at work

  41. @jessiemorelli on October 3, 2024 at 10:19 pm

So once theyā€™re used to the crate do you always have to have their very fav treat in there like forever?

  42. @pauly118jenkins on October 3, 2024 at 10:19 pm

Crate training a puppy is difficult. As soon as you put the dog in the crate and go to bed, it becomes a not so good space. I have struggled with this even though a sent blanket, fav toy, and a treat have been used. What is the answer. Because now the crate is associated with us leaving her

  43. @ClaireMacedo on October 3, 2024 at 10:20 pm

To anyone going through this…I give her vetiq calming treats about 30 mins before she goes in the crate and half every time she’s good. 3 days in, she settles quickly! Also, since I got her we have a lavender and chamomile candle burning…she definitely settles right down at night, my last dog did too! Prepare to be sleepier in yourself earlier too! But that could just be being a puppy parent! šŸ˜‚

  46. @sluggdiddyyddidgguls on October 3, 2024 at 10:24 pm

So my pup (13 weeks) goes in the crate fine, will do about a minute of whining but then settles down for the night. But then in the morning they cry at like 7 in the morning.. And They immediately go out and pee/poo… is it bad to react to this crying and let them out then? I am a little confused because too me it was the pup telling me he absolutely needs to go to the bathroom and not him manipulating me. He will go and relax in the crate on his own throughout the day so he doesn’t dislike it.

  47. @ColleenHatton-r7y on October 3, 2024 at 10:29 pm

  48. @jonnyrose12321 on October 3, 2024 at 10:31 pm

    What treats do you use?

  49. @Skampino on October 3, 2024 at 10:31 pm

You’re cruel. Using fear to control it by tapping on the crate.
